Reviews of Best Moultrie Low Glow Game Cameras for 2018

Moultrie Low Glow Trail Cameras

Most deer hunters, as well as other outdoor enthusiasts, want to know as much information about the wildlife in their area prior to and during the hunting season.

One of the best ways hunters can get this information is through the use of trail cameras, which can take images and record video during both daytime and nighttime hours. Trail cameras can use a few different types of flash to get these images and videos at night. One of the most most popular types of flash uses low-glow infrared LEDs and today one of the most popular trail camera manufacturers is Moultrie.

Unlike some other companies that might only offer a couple of options, Moultrie has 7 low glow models to choose from in 2018. This makes it easier for people to find a model that meets their needs without having to pay extra money for features that they don't want or need. Combining these choices with a reputation for standing behind their products and you can understand why many people like to look at Moultrie when they are in the market to buy a new game camera.

We have reviewed all seven of their models for 2018 to help you quickly identify which model is the best for you and your unique situation.

About the Company

Founded in the 1980’s, Moultrie offers a wide variety of wildlife products such as animal attractants, feeders, apparel and scouting cameras for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts.

Their feeders and other wildlife products are designed, tested, and used by hunters, game management pros, and other outdoor enthusiasts. In recent years Moultire’s game cameras have become increasingly popular as they continue to add new features and functionality to their product line.

Moultrie has built a reputation for being a company that sells quality, dependable products that last. They only strengthen this reputation by backing-up almost every trail camera with a 2-year warranty.

The Moultrie trail cameras we have reviewed below offer a variety of features at various price points to appeal to a wide range of hunters.

What is Low Glow Flash?

There are two main types of flash technology used by trail cameras to capture images and video and night.

One type of flash is commonly referred to as low glow, which uses red infrared LEDs which emit a small amount of light (glow) when the camera is capturing videos and images at night.

The second most popular type of flash used by trail cameras is commonly called no glow or invisible LEDs. Unlike the low glow flash the no glow LEDs don't emit any light thereby keeping the camera undetectable at night. No glow cameras are most desirable for people who want to conceal the location of the camera. For example, people who are using them for security purposes or people who are hunting on public land where they think their camera might be at risk for getting stolen.

Trail cameras with no glow flash typically cost a bit more and have a smaller flash range than similarly equipped low glow cameras. So if you don’t need a no glow camera getting a low glow model might offer a better flash range while saving you some money.

Things To Consider When Choosing The Best Model For You

When deciding which low glow game camera from Moultrie is the best one for you there are a few things you should consider.

  1. How much do you have to spend?
  2. How many trail cameras to you need? If you need more than one camera you need to make sure that you don’t go over your budget. Luckily Moultrie has some very affordable options.
  3. Flash range. Not every low glow camera has the same flash range. The numbers of LEDs in each camera can vary, which impacts the effective range.
  4. Image stamps. Every Moultrie trail camera has an image stamp that provides you with key information such as camera ID, time, date, temperature and moon phase. However, not every trail camera provides all this information.
  5. Image quality. Compared to cameras from several years ago every camera has great image quality. That being said some models sport higher megapixels than others.
  6. Video quality. Trail cameras might record video in VGA, 720p HD, or 1080p HD. Yes, you can tell the difference in video quality when watching, but they all can get the job done.
  7. Audio. Only one of the low glow cameras from Moultrie includes audio in its’ video recording. A lot of people are fine without this option, but if this is important to you make sure that it is in included.
  8. Is the camera Moultrie Mobile compatible? If you are thinking that later on you might like to turn your Moultrie trail camera into a cellular trail camera make sure that it is Moultrie Mobile compatible. The innovative Moultrie Mobile Wireless Field Modem MV1 allows you to easily convert compatible existing Moultrie trail camera into a cellular trail camera.
