Review of Key Features and Benefits of the Vikeri A1 Trail Camera

Camera

One of the first things you will notice about the A1’s camera is its 120° wide-angle lens. Being able to monitor a wider portion of the landscape means that game animals don’t need to be straight in front of the camera in order to be captured.

When taking pictures the camera has a resolution of 20 megapixels and can be set to take bursts of 1, 2, 3, or 10 shots when the camera is triggered. If you prefer video you will be impressed when you see the amount of detail in the 1520p Ultra-High Resolution videos. With such high resolutions, you won’t miss a thing!

In addition to the standard Photo and Video modes, the A1 also has Photo + Video mode where the camera takes a picture before recording video.

Motion (PIR) Sensor

The PIR sensor is a vital component of any trail camera, as it identifies any disturbance in the camera’s detection area. The Vikeri A1 has a single motion sensor with a detection range of 80 feet, which is long compared to what most other trail cameras offer today. Plus its wide 120° detection angle gives the camera a large detection area allowing it to monitor more than just what is right in front of the camera.

The sensor is adjustable, allowing you to change its sensitivity. It can be set to high, middle, or low. The middle setting is the default setting, as it is the best setting for the majority of users. However, if you are using a camera in a large wide-open area you might want to try starting out with the high setting. If you’re trying to avoid false positives, you might want to set it to low.

Trigger Speed

The Vikeri A1 has a great trigger speed of 0.2 seconds, which is quite fast. With the A1’s large detection area and quick trigger speed, you can be confident that it will capture whatever comes in front of the camera’s lens.

Flash

Another thing about the A1 that makes it stand out from the crowd is its no glow flash. Its 48pcs 940nm no glow infrared LEDs ensure that your pictures and videos are illuminated at night without giving away the camera’s location, which is something you want to avoid if you are using the camera as a security camera or to monitor animals on public hunting land.

No glow flash often isn’t found on similarly priced trail cameras, especially cameras with will the same high-end features as the A1.

Time-Lapse Feature

Using the time-lapse feature on the Vikeri can be helpful if you want to monitor the area that is beyond the range of the PIR sensors, are having trouble with false triggers, or want to capture a slow naturally occurring process in the wild. When enabling the time-lapse feature between either normal time-lapse or time-lapse video where the camera will combine the time-lapse photos to create a video.

Remember that when you choose to turn the time-lapse feature on, it will disable the PIR sensors. So if there is activity in the detection area, the camera will not be triggered to take photos. The only photos that will be taken are those at the time intervals you select.

Hours of Operation Timer

The Hours of Operation Timer, or as Vikeri calls it the Target Recording Time feature, is an excellent feature if you don’t need your camera to be active 24 hours a day. This feature allows you to specify the time period each day that the camera will be active, which will help conserve battery life and help to save storage space on the memory card.

LCD Screen

Vikeri A1 Trail Camera LCD

The 2.4-inch color LCD screen is helpful when setting up the camera and viewing photos and videos in the field.

As we discussed in our article about whether or not you need a memory card reader or viewer, due to the small size of color LCD screens on trail cameras, it is a great idea for you to have a memory card reader or viewer if you plan on viewing a lot of images and videos in the field.

Memory Card

SanDisk Ultra 32GB microSDHC card

The Vikeri A1 supports micro SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory cards with a maximum capacity of up to 256GB. Class 10 cards are required. We’re not big fans of using micro SD cards in trail cameras because they’re easy to drop and lose outside, especially in cold weather. But most people will overlook this shortcoming because of the camera’s other strong qualities.

We always recommend having two memory cards for each camera. This way, you can spend less time in the woods checking the cards on your trail cameras and reduce the chance of scaring off game animals. So while the 32GB memory card that comes with the trail camera works just fine, we suggest getting a larger capacity card to you can extend the amount of time you can leave the camera out in the woods without having it run out of storage space.

If you want the option to leave the camera out for as long as possible without running out of storage space the SanDisk Ultra 256GB microSDXC card is a great option. However, if you plan on checking in on the camera on a more regular basis the SanDisk Ultra 32GB microSDHC card is a more affordable option.

It’s also worth noting that if you’re worried about your memory card getting full, you can enable Endless Capture Mode, which is the same as the Loop Recording setting found on other cameras. When this feature is enabled, the camera will delete older material on the memory card to make room for newer recordings if the card becomes full.

Password Protection

The password protection feature lets you restrict the camera’s use to only those who know the code. To set up the password on the A1 you simply go into the settings menu where you will be prompted to create a 4-digit number that you will be asked to provide each time you want to access the camera in the future.

Batteries

Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries

The A1 can be powered with 4 or 8 AA batteries and comes with 4 AA batteries included. If you only need to have the A1 in the field for a short time, 4 batteries will do the trick. However, if you need it for a longer period, using 8 batteries will give you the best results in terms of battery life.

Even though the A1 is energy efficient and can last up to 6 months in standby mode, the type of battery you use can have a big impact on the performance of your camera. For the best performance and longest battery life, especially in cold weather, we recommend using Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries. However, these batteries can be more expensive. For a more budget-friendly option, you might opt for alkaline batteries if you are only going to leave the camera out for shorter periods of time when the weather is warm. You can read our article about trail camera batteries if you want to learn more about why we recommend lithium batteries.

It is also worth noting that Vikeri recommends that you don’t use rechargeable batteries in the camera due to the lower voltage they provide.

Input for External Power Supply

You can use a DC 6V/1.5A external power supply unit with this trail camera, so if you want to leave the camera unattended for extended periods of time without worrying about the batteries running out of power, you can do so.

Image Stamp

The image stamp feature shows you details about each photo or video. The details include the date, time, temperature, moon phase, and camera serial number (if you have the serial number setting turned on). The camera serial number in the image stamp is a 4-digit number you assign to the camera. Enabling the serial number so it can appear on the image stamp is a very handy way to identify your trail cameras, especially if you have multiple trail cameras.

So, what’s in the Vikeri A1’s packaging? Here’s what is included with the camera:

Areas of Use

The Vikeri A1 trail camera is a versatile tool that can be used for a variety of purposes. Monitoring game animals is one of the most popular uses for this type of camera, however, the Vikeri A1 can also be used for security purposes. Its high-resolution and wide-detection angle make it ideal for monitoring homes, businesses, and hunting properties. Additionally, the Vikeri A1’s no-glow flash makes it easier to conceal the camera’s location at night, making it a valuable tool for security and surveillance as well as for use on public hunting land.

Price

When you look at its no glow flash along with the other features of the A1 trail camera, you may think that it will be higher priced. That is not the case, which may be surprising to some people. It is reasonably priced, just a bit more than the typical entry-level trail camera, but remember that Vikeri also includes a memory card and a set of batteries with the A1, which further adds to the camera’s value. In the end, the Vikeri A1 Trail Camera is an affordable option for those who want a high-quality trail camera without breaking the bank.

Campark T86 WiFi Trail Camera & T85 WiFi Trail Camera

Campark Trail CameraCampark Trail Camera

If you like the Vikeri A1 but wished it had wireless connectivity the Campark T86 trail camera is a very good option – especially if you want to post the camera at an elevated or other hard-to-reach location.

Not only does the Campark T86 have wireless connectivity, but it also has 3 PIR sensors. When combined the 3 motion sensors offer the same 120° detection angle as the A1, but it also offers you the option to turn off the side sensors thereby reducing the detection angle to 60°, which can be very helpful if you have the camera set up in a place where it is getting a lot of false triggers.

You can check the current price of the Campark T86 here.

If you are interested in the Campark T86 but are looking for the best price you might also want to check out the Campark T85, which looks a little different than the T85, but shares all the same features and specs.

GardePro A3S Trail Camera

GardePro A3S Trail Camera

The GardePro A3S is a great trail camera to buy if you like the Vikeri A1 but would like to have the control that is offered by having 3 PIR sensors instead of one (and you don’t need wireless connectivity that you will find in the higher-priced Campark T86 & T85 cameras mentioned above). While its field of view is a bit narrower and its 1080p video resolution is a bit less than the A1, the GardePro A3S does have some specs that are better than the E2 such as a longer flash range and faster trigger speed.
